Colors and Shapes Unit

The colors and shapes is a fun unit where we get to play with making new colors and  experiment with how shapes make pictures.  The kids are always amazed at how colors are all around us.  Something we take for granted.

We had colored rice in one sensory table and a table FULL of different colors and kinds of pom-poms.  The pom-pom table is always a hit!  We pulled out our light table and had fun making new colors by stacking colored paddles on top of one another.  In the next set of photos, we used clear colored Legos to build on the light table.

On the right of this photo collage, we became scientists and mixed colors together into test tubes or small medicine cups using only red, yellow, and blue colored water and eye droppers.  "Floam" was also a hit.  It is foamy colored beads that you can squeeze and shape into anything you like.  Some creations were flowers, rabbits, birthday cakes and snowmen.

Colors lend themselves to so many good books and crafts.  We made Blotto after reading Little Blue and Little Yellow.  Spin Art is a blast. The kids just adore turning on the spinning machine and adding the three primary colors to see what colors combine and the crazy mixed up designs it makes.  We also made our Shape Monsters.  We only got photos of a few of some of our monster creations!
